From March 27-30, five Lethbridge Firefighter/Paramedics will be on the roof of Toys “R” Us in downtown Lethbridge to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. This is the first time Lethbridge Fire Fighters’s Charities has participated in a such an event. For three days these firefighters will have to brave the elements, with temperatures falling to -15 C, while trying to achieve their goal of “filling the boot” with $10,000.
CTV news caught up with the Lethbridge Fire Fighters who are on the roof of Toy “R” Us.
Lethbridge Firefighters, Local 237, are a part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) which consists of almost 280,000 professional fire fighters and paramedics from across Canada and the US. Since 1954, the IAFF and its tens of thousands of members have donated nearly $275 million to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The contributions of fire fighters has gone towards research efforts to eradicate nearly 40 neuromuscular diseases, buying equipment used to help those with MD, and to improve the quality of life for people affected by muscular dystrophy.
On Saturday, Sobeys will be putting on a BBQ from 11:30am-1:00pm. For $5 you get a hotdog, a bag of chips, and a pop. The money collected from the BBQ will go directly into the fire boot. Please stop by for a visit and make your donation to Muscular Dystrophy Canada and get these firefighters off the roof.
