Lethbridge Honor Guard Attend Ottawa Memorial

Honor Guard members Bonnie James and Les Hilliard attended the Canadian Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial service in Ottawa on September 9, 2012.   This was the unveiling and dedication of Canada’s tribute to the 1,111 fallen Canadian Firefighters that have died in the line of duty since 1848.

 Lethbridge’s fallen members; Clifford Heaton, John Sterenberg, Douglas Herbers, Edward Kurtz and Ted Bochan were honoured and recognized in the dedication ceremony that was attended by Governor General David Johnson.

 Over 1800 firefighters and spectators attended this year’s ceremony. The 18 meter high firefighter statue was cast from bronze smelted from brass hose couplings and nozzles donated from various departments for the cause.
