Secretary Brent Shelton and I attended the 51st Biannual IAFF Convention in Philadelphia.
This year’s convention dealt with 26 resolutions. I had the honor to serve on the Legislative committee at convention.
This convention was an Election year for our principal officers. The leadership of General President Harold Schaitberger and General Secretary- Treasurer Tom Miller was confirmed by delegates, who re-elected them by acclamation. Our 6th distric Vice President Lorne West was also re-elected by acclamation
United States Vice President Joe Biden attended and addressed the Delegates and President Barack Obama spoke to IAFF members at the 51st Convention by telephone.
The IAFF passed an important torch from one brother to another, naming Shaun Probert as the new IAFF spokesperson for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). In an emotional presentation, IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger introduced Probert to the more than 2,000 assembled delegates at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Probert replaces MDA spokesperson Kelly Crush, a fire fighter from Wichita Falls, TX Local 432 who died in March from ALS.

We participated in a rally March along with 3000 IAFF Members from the Convention centre to City hall in Philadelphias to demand that Mayor Michael Nutter implement an arbitration award that Philadelphia Fire Fighters and Paramedics Union Local 22 won – twice – and which the mayor continues to refuse to implement.
